Not making it as far as they had hoped, Humboldt came up short in the second round of Substate at Wellsville, March 1.

In the first round of Substate, the Cubs were rewarded with a home game where they took on West Franklin, Feb. 26. Humboldt defeated the Falcons in the last quarter where they pulled off the 52-51 win.

“Defensively we played great,” Lance Daniels, sr., said. “Our defensive was able to keep us in the game. Putting Caleb and Jacob in gave us a spark in the fourth quarter that helped us make a comeback.”

During the second round of the tournament, they traveled to Wellsville and took on Council Grove. The outcome was not what they were hoping. Council Grove came out and established a marginal lead that the Cubs were not able to overcome. Humboldt was ultimately defeated 57-71, ending their season.

“It was not how we were expecting the season to end,” Colin Gillespie, sr., said. “We were not able to get anything going offensively, and defensively we could not get any rebounds. It was a fun season, but it had a disappointing end.”
